Proverbs 31 (part 1)

I did a personal study on the passage of Proverbs 31:10-31. These verses describe the Virtuous woman, and I'd like to share what I found with you. This will be broken down in verses, and presented in King James Version and New International Version.

Proverbs 31:10
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. (KJV)

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies. (NIV)

A virtuous woman is priced above rubies. The word chayil is used for virtuous, which can also mean an army, wealth, virtue, valor, and strength. This virtuous woman is seen as more then just virtue.

A woman with these traits is priceless. According to Miriam-Webster, this is what each word means now.

Army- A body of persons organized to advance a cause

Wealth- An abundance of valuable material possesions and resources; abundant supply

Virtue-conformity to a standard of right; a beneficial quality or power to a thing;manly strength or courage; a capacity to act; chasisty, especially in a woman

Valor- strength of mind or spirit that enables a person to encounter danger with fimness; personal bravery

Strength- quality or state of being strong; power to resist force; power to resist attack

This is how a woman is described in one word. This is a woman who is priced above rubies. She is more precious then precious stones.

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. (KJV)

Her husband has full confidence in her    and lacks nothing of value. (NIV)

The heart of her husband is his being. A virtuous woman's husband can trust her with his money, with his soul, with his children, with his household, with anything. He doesn't need to go out in to the streets to find love. He doesn't need to go to war to get spoils and riches. He has a wife at home who loves him. She takes care of him, and he trusts her.

So, ladies, are we virtuous today?

You are a Dead Crayfish (I Hope)

Half of you have no clue what I'm talking about, huh?

For the people who have never been near Louisiana, and don't know what a crayfish is, they are kinda like the miniature, Cajun version of lobster. And if you've haven't cooked lobster or crayfish, it's an interesting process.

You boil up some water, throw in some Cajun seasonings (this is for crayfish, just so you know) and make it all so spicy. Then you throw in some corn on the cob, some red potatoes, so more spices. Finally, when they're all nice and boiled up, you throw in the crayfish. Easy peasey, lemon squeezy. Except for the one thing.

The crayfish are alive when they go into the pot.

Let me tell you, it is the saddest thing I have ever seen. It makes me almost cry watching it, and I don't even like crayfish dead or alive! But to watch a living thing fight to survive and then get thrown into a big pot of boiling water as if it doesn't even matter, it's sad.

You are a crayfish.

You and your buddies were just enjoying a nice day of mud-bugging, (mudbug is another name for crayfish, for you Northerners, by the way) when you've been caught up in a net. Now, you're fighting for your life, you can hear the boiling water, and suddenly there is a big Chef standing over you, with his chef hat lopsided and a wide gleeful grin over his face. That's Satan. He starts sorting out the crayfish, putting the live ones in the pot, and the dead ones get thrown out. The pot is hell by the way.

Now how does this pertain to you, my hopefully dead crayfish?

When shellfish die, their stomach releases an enzyme that begins to dissolve all of their eternal organs. This is called belly-burn, and ruin the meat of the shellfish. This is why they are boiled alive, though you can kill them right before they go into the pot.

You, the crayfish, get thrown out, not in the pot, because you have crucified your flesh, died for Jesus, and now have belly-burn, which the Holy Spirit.

Satan can't cook you. He can't throw you into hell. If he does, it'll ruin his own pot of mudbugs. You are safe, because in his eyes, you're already dead. Your flesh is dead and the Holy Spirit lives in you. Congrats, you are SAFE!

So, aren't you glad you're a dead crayfish?

For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit, you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
                                          -Romans 8:13 (NIV)

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed their passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there
